Crufts
Birmingham NEC, 7th March 2014. Judge: Mrs Frances Chapman-King (Inzievar).
"It was an honour and a privilege to judge my favourite breed at Crufts. The exhibitors were sporting and my stewards helpful and competent.
"I was looking for the Dandie essentials; the distinctive head, offsetting a long weasely shaped body, and covered with a crisp pencilled coat to combine ideal breed type with a low, sound driving gait, and Dandie temperament, is of course not easy.
"Not a great time of year for coats, and consequently perhaps, I found few exhibits with a full 2 inch pencilled coat, with the combination of three textures and olour called for in topknot, body coat and tail. This is an important breed point that impacts on both type and function.
"I was pleased with my principal CC winners, both displaying correct make and shape, and most typical in outlook. Overall bitches were stronger than the dogs, giving some close decisions here.
"My DCC winner came from the VD Class, Denham?s Ch Scottsbairn Duke Of Ross and he chased the younger bitch CC & BOB winner, Marshall?s Ch Dun Eideann First Edition all the way. A close call."

Veteran Dog | 1st: Denham's Ch. Scottsbairn Duke Of RossTypical masculine pepper with distinctive head quality. Excellent strong skull and well domed forehead, deep muzzle, large teeth with perfect scissor, large nose and profuse clear top knot, all combining to give a quality masculine head. Good neck and layback, excellent deep ribbing and shapely topline, excellent body properties and proportion, good bone and well padded feet. Strong well muscled quarters which he used to good effect on the move, being sound all ways, and moving with purpose and style. Assertive in tail carriage, correct in set on. Shown in rather short coat which cost him in the final analysis, although texture is correct. Well deserved CC. |

Special Junior Dog | 1st: Doyle's Dentgate Jackfrost at IlexquercusMedium size mustard with very good head properties, typical liquid eye and correct big teeth and bite. Open Bitch | 1st: Marshall's Ch. Duneideann First EditionTypical, quality feminine pepper with excellent head properties, and dark expressive eyes. Good layback, well off for bone, padded feet, good deep ribbing, shapely body and topline. Not quite in full coat, but enough and of pleasing texture. Low to ground. Moved out well on go around. Could be a touch more positive behind. Showed and handled well. Mature and finished picture. CC & BOB. |
|
| 2nd: Weatherstone & Heywood's Ch. Cloverwood Day By Day at SchalullekeTypical feminine pepper I have awarded top honours to before. Pleasing head and excellent expression, excellent layback and quarters angulation, flowing topline, ribbed up. Low to ground. Full coat of correct texture, rather solid in body colour. However no sparkle today and reluctant on the move, although accurate in footfall, not using her tail. When she returned to the ring for RCC challenge, upped her performance and moved out soundly with some animation to win RCC. |
